Project Reveal: City Proper

Step into one of our favourite projects to date, where classic elements meet modern accents, in our signature New Traditional style. City Proper is a testament to the art of intentional design, where every detail is meticulously considered to create a space that is not only visually stunning but also highly functional.

Picture warm neutrals, traditional touches, and modern highlights to create a sense of timelessness in a space that feels both familiar and refreshingly new. The result of our work at this stately house located in the desirable neighbourhood of Glenora is a beautifully designed home that reflects the unique aesthetics of the homeowners.

Heritage Details

When selecting finishes for the home, we took inspiration from the homeowners' Greek and Scottish heritages. A custom travertine fireplace, luxe bouclé linens, and style details like custom plaid pillows all came together to create a personal yet visually captivating space.

This living room gave us the opportunity to create a custom ottoman that perfectly suited the impressive scale of the space. The key was to design a piece that increased the functionality of hosting in the home, while also providing a canvas for layered interior styling. The supple Italian leather added the perfect textural touch amongst the luxe linens of the sofas and chairs.

Green Smoke

The historical details of this room provided the perfect canvas for a modern twist on tradition that prioritizes both style and substance.

Every aspect of this dining room was carefully curated, with an eye for elevated tones, textures, and materials. The statement light fixture, thoughtfully offset from the ceiling medallion, transforms this space into a visual masterpiece. The result? A highly intentional and expertly balanced room where all of the design details are unified.

Richly pigmented paint, aptly named Green Smoke, acts as the perfect canvas for the luxe silk and linen drapery, and antique French mirrors resting on a custom sideboard. The creamy tone and intricately woven texture of the dining chairs complement the solid walnut table, a bespoke piece designed by Stephenson House.

Balancing Style

A powder room serves as the perfect backdrop for creativity and standout style. We selected this stunning Morris & Co. wallpaper to blend the homeowners' personal styles, incorporating a use of pattern with creamy neutrals. The sides of the mirror are reflective, maximizing the impact of the wallpaper.

From the dark stone top of the vanity to the rich hue of the Matouk linens, the moody details set this powder room apart. The antiqued brass hardware and fixtures stand out against these striking tones, while the shapes of the fixtures, lighting and mirror add a modern element to the traditional motifs. Each style comes together in perfect balance, intentional design at its best.
